While members went on to pursue other interests, the Freaks remained friends as social media made it easier, and then even easier to stay in touch. Comprised of old friends whose relationships are interwoven like the roots of an old growth tree, (some members have been playing together for over 15 years and drummer Codyīrown even dated bassist Sarah Darnall’s sister in highschool) Hot Freaks were born of a tight knit community, and would seem destined to remain hidden gems in the local scene. For whatever reason, while Hot Freaks’ brand of toe-tapping vulnerability was electric on the lively Minneapolis scene, the band never made it far beyond the borders of Minnesota, playing countless homefield shows but only one or two in the greater midwest area. Their debut record, the self-titled “Hot Freaks” collects 10 tight tracks of winsome yet up-beat indie-pop produced with a glossy, highly danceable discosheen that counteracts a yearning lyrical melancholia– reminiscent of famous over-sharers of Montreal and sensitive symbolists Voxtrot, with a touch of MGMT’s unbridled charisma. To get multiple colors on the flower, I first stamped in Curry and used a sponge dauber to tap around the inked rubber using Dusty Durango. The stamp is "True Friends", and oldie but a goodie! The Soft Suede paper in the rear of the card is a Top Note die cut so just the edges show. Just goes to show you how versatile the paper is -) Here's another project using the Merry Moments designer paper. The rest are just some fun embellishments. The snowflakes were simply cut from the opposite side of the Merry Moments designer paper I used for decorating the top. The inner square of the Petal Card is 2 1/2", so to create a box to fit underneath, you simply need to score your cardstock at 2 1/2" intervals.īefore adhering the sides together, stamp snowflakes (from the upcoming Holiday Mini) using Soft Suede and Curry on the outside of the box. Face your designer paper down and work through your Big Shot. Glue your designer paper (Merry Moments) to your Dusty Durango cardstock. First cut Dusty Durango cardstock the size of the Bigz die. The top of this little box was created with the Stampin' Up! Petal Card die from Sizzix.
